Ode to Joseph Lee Heywood

Part of the Musical Portraits of Northfield Project.

In 1876, on the spot where you stand

Was a bank that caught the eye of Jesse James and his band

When they rolled into town

They did not understand

That the townsfolk had the courage to foil their plan

Joseph Lee Heywood, you’re a hero to us (hero to us)

You’re a super Northfielder, not superfluous (superfluous)

So every September your story is heard  (never gets old)

We’ll reenact your death while eating cheese curds

Supported by a generous Artists on Main Street Grant from the Northfield Downtown Development Corporation.
